How it all started




Redefining ticketing

Flicket emerged in 2018 determined to empower the sports and entertainment industry with full control over their data and fan experience. With over 50 years of family history managing countless events in Australasia, CEO and co-founder Ben Calvert brought a wealth of pedigree and expertise to the table.

Recognising the outdated nature of the traditional ticketing model, Ben joined forces with CTO and co-founder Jimmy Barwell-Smith to develop a platform that would revolutionise the industry. Flicket's unwavering focus on customer satisfaction and consumer empowerment quickly garnered attention, leading to the acquisition of five initial clients even before the product launch. Their software showcased its potential, driving further industry adoption and solidifying Flicket as a game-changer in the market.




Growth, adaptation, and expansion

Despite COVID-19’s impact on the event industry, Flicket embraced the opportunity to enhance and diversify its platform. After assessing client feedback, we added features, rebuilt and relaunched with improved seat selection and user-friendly interfaces. 

Challenges faced throughout this period demonstrated Flicket's versatility as they outperformed competitors, offering comprehensive solutions to our partners. Success in both the sports and entertainment industries led to partnership and collaboration expansions with organisations such Laneway, NPC, Greenstone Entertainment, and renowned events like the Aotearoa Art Show and Big Boys Toys. 

Working across this diverse array of events exposed and confirmed challenges that were shared across multiple ticketing industries. In response, we addressed issues like limited customer data and the absence of a secondary marketplace to further solidify Flicket’s position as a comprehensive and innovative ticketing solution.




Expanding horizons

2021 proved to be another year of impressive growth for Flicket as we continued our expansion with a greater market reach and additional strategic partnerships. With a dedicated team of 10, we ventured into new markets including expos, car, and horse racing. Our diversification showcased Flicket's adaptability and commitment to serving a wide range of industries.

Built to serve our customers, we continued to enhance Flicket with optimised features and functions. This new suite included marketing tools to empower our partners to reach their target audiences more effectively and drive sales. We also partnered with Laybuy, a leader in New Zealand’s buy-now-pay-later market, to offer consumers a flexible payment option that would create a wider range of access to exciting events.  




A year of global expansion and exciting partnerships

As the world slowly emerged from the grip of the pandemic, 2022 marked a significant milestone as our team nearly doubled and Flicket ventured into the Australia, US, and Pacific Island markets.

Amidst Flicket’s international expansion, we secured new partnerships with three more Super Rugby teams for the highly anticipated 2023 Super season — the Hurricanes, Blues, and Fijian Drua. 

Online ticketing was relatively new to the Pacific Island market which presented unique challenges; Flicket integrated with iMpasia, a local Fijian payment platform, to enable online ticket purchasing for locals for the first time ever — a proud moment for both Flicket and the Fijian Drua as this would grow their success locally and internationally.
